Copic Feature Artist - Desmond

We are excited to announce our Copic feature artist Desmond Freeman!!

Getting to know Desmond

Q: Use 5 words to describe yourself as an artist?

A: Colour-obsessed; detail-obsessed; relaxed; committed; patient

Q: If you had to describe yourself as a Copic colour which colour would it be and why?

A: Ultramarine B29 because the colour requires careful application, patience and depth to achieve its potential.

Q: What do you love most about using Copic?

A: I love the reliability and consistency of colour, the breadth of the range and wide variety of nibs and refills.

Q: What do you do when you get stuck in a creativity rut?

A: Mood and temperament are so important to an artist – if they are not right I take a break and come back when they are right. Forcing creativity leads nowhere.

Q: What is your favourite Copic colour combo?

A: I love the whole sequence of warm greys from W1 to W9 and use them a lot in my work to achieve architectural finishes

Q: What inspires you?

A: I am inspired by the geometry of an image or view and the eventual visual comfort of that image on the paper. I am inspired by shadows – so important in my work and so readily achievable using the wide Copic colour range.
